Ironman River Swim 18th June
The main focus this weekend in terms of Tuff involvement was REP’s River Swim, a full Ironman distance swim from Ford down to the mouth of the Arun by the RNLI station where there were 16 club members participating with more helping with the organisation or providing support.
Paul Howie sent in this race report:
400 entrants for a mass start is always going to make for a fun start to a swim. To avoid any problems just stick behind somebody quicker and follow as they ‘snowplough’ a route through the carnage (thanks Captain). Took a while to warm up, as chilly down stream, but soon found myself in plenty of space just behind a group and just kept going at a steady pace, focusing on stroke length. Feeling good later on I pushed a bit harder and managed to gain some places. Last did this in 2014 in 1 hour 2 minutes, similar conditions & tide this year but finished in 53 minutes.
The secret to the improvement is to be found every Thursday & Saturday with Steve & Kev!
