Weekend Round Up 30th 31st October
COCKBAIN TRACK 100
Has everyone been enjoying our Wednesday track session? – ever thought about staying for longer… much, much longer!
How about having 25 hours in a day; Yes you did read this correctly – this was a 100 miles track race on the day the clocks go back giving competitors that extra hour to complete. The event, located in Huntingdon, Cambridge was staged by Cockbain, they stress their events are so extreme that entrants need extensive ultra qualifications. That’s OK as it was none other than Jay McCardle who took part, and as you might hope, there was professional track timing so he didn’t need to keep count. Jay was modest, not mentioning he came 5th overall and as you might expect there was a significant number who retired before the full number of laps. Jay achieved the distance in just 18 hours 43 and reports as follows:-
” This was a bit of stupidity by myself as Danny picked a injury. What can I say about running around a track 405 times, it’s mental torture !!! I kept completely losing track ( pun intended) of where I was, and any GPX will not record correctly on this type of event. I did have a bit of meltdown when I had convinced myself I had 4 to go, it was actually 20! Apart from that it was very sociable and the second fastest 100 I’ve done.”

WIMBLEDON HALF MARATHON
After Rachel Brunning had completed a set number of half marathons prior to lockdown she wasn’t too sure about another, but hey, when the Wombles are present during the Wimbledon Half marathon, what’s not to like. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very accommodating with rain and mud present, but Rachel did get the compensation of a medal with a Womble on it.
TUFF FITTY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Tuff Fitty have a written constitution and as is tradition our AGM was held in October with the conclusion of the multisport season. As a club run by its members for its members, thank you to those who made the effort to dial into the virtual meeting. As the range of activities, & governance increases, there is a higher workload for the committee to deal with. Unfortunately due to work commitments several of the committee have stood down this year. Thanks go to Drew Gowland, Nicole Ewer, James Brock, Iris Bennett & Shelley Babbage for all their hard work. Shelley has worked tirelessly on the club kit, thank you, and relinquishing her committee role will enable her to continue her good work with kit.
Clive Harvey – Chair
Anthony Towers – Treasurer
Sue Neilson
Wendy Frost – the above four existing committee members were voted back without any further nominations.
For the coming year we are pleased that Jon Roper is to serve on the committee, a role he first took up back in 2005 & Adrian Oliver, so two great new appointments. As you will see above, our committee is a small ensemble so If anyone wishes to serve on the committee, or help with specific events or training, please contact one of the committee to find out more details.
Despite being unable to stage our usual Frosty Aquathlon in 2021, Tuff Fitty have come through the Covid lockdown in a strong position financially and thanks go to the officials who reacted to suspending and then reinstating our training venues as the pandemic dictated to control costs. Clive Harvey provided an address from the Chair, Anthony Towers took the meeting through a more detailed financial review and Andy Ward as head coach set out the coaching position – look out for the coaches 2022 training plan to be launched shortly.
TUFF FITTY MEMBERSHIP
The 1st of November triggers the new membership year and our annual subscriptions are now due. We are pleased to maintain these at £40 for new members. We are keen to provide some reward as thanks to exiting members for the support which has sustained Tuff Fitty over the past year. Therefore we are to continue with the member loyalty renewal subscription. If members renew their subscription before 31st December then the fee reduces to £35. Please note we have had several members join the club over the last couple of months and their subscription is automatically rolled into the new club year.
Levels of administration remain high post Covid with track and trace and to reduce touchpoints of contact and pens during restrictions we did not give priority to our PARQ records. We like to ensure that such PARQ -(Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) forms are updated every two years or on return to play after a significant injury. The form contains important ICE details (In case of emergency) so it is important that any changes in postal address/email address/ or mobile are advised please. If people can be proactive and print a form off that would be appreciated, otherwise forms will be out prior to training sessions for completion. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
PARKRUN
Weather conditions would ensure times would not be as good as previously, and there wasn’t a parkrun at LIttlehampton due to the fairground being set up for the evening’s bonfire celebrations. This didn’t stop the following though: –
The weather clearly wasn’t daunting for Emily Moore over at Chichester parkrun as she returned home second overall, and 1st female missing out of 1st place by just 16 seconds.
Worthing parkrun saw Stephen O’Donnell first Tuff home in 22:37 closely followed by James Oram in 22:48. Les Pearce in 23:47
Lancing parkrun saw Dave Priest clock up his 42nd parkrun.
Bognor parkrun saw Alistair Evans run around Hotham Park
Horsham parkrun saw Ian Moore on the organising team
Maidenhead parkrun saw Trevor Harvey in action again
