Weekend Round Up 18th 19th February

A quieter week in respect of race action, albeit Tuff training continues apace.

FROSTY AQUATHLON

All the components are now in place for our Frosty Aquathlon being held on the 5th March. As we are almost at entry closing date, a big thank you to everyone who volunteered to help on the day. Even with our immense band of Tuff volunteers that still leaves room for twenty five Tuffs to participate, almost evenly split between the Frosty & Frostbite. Much of the preparation is required months beforehand so particularly thanks to Jenny & Adrian Oliver, Sue & Colin Simpson alongside the chair. Also thanks to Katie Goddard for undertaking our publicity drive. Good luck to all involved. If you hadn’t volunteered yet to marshal do feel able to contact Jenny

RUN REIGATE TRAIL RUN

Organised by ‘Run Series’, a company that stages, Run Gatwick & Run Reigate the weekend’s events covered 5k & 10k around Gatton Park. A very scenic course around a park designed by Capability Brown, including a lake and across a weir. As is common with country estates, the house stands on the top of a hill where the start and finish was, meaning there was significant climbing on each of the 5k laps.

It is good to see races starting to fill again as the event was at capacity. First off at 8:30am was Debbie Boxall running the 10k Cani-cross race with Obi. They set a great pace around the first 5k lap but then Obi became rather recalcitrant telling Debbie this wasn’t his idea of a fun Sunday morning, but they both still finished in style. 10am saw the start of the ordinary 10k and in the sunny, mild conditions, Glenn Parisi, Trevor Harvey & Clive Harvey all crossed the line for their wooden medal and goody bag. The quartet replenished afterwards with big slices of Debbie’s home made carrot cake whilst Obi slept in the sun.

PARKRUN ROUND UP

Worthing parkrun saw Tony Pearce as first club member home with James Oram 8 seconds later. Les Pearce was next; just 27 seconds between our first three Tuffs. Edward Lay was next for this 116th PR. Murray Hodge completed the Tuff Five.

Littlehampton parkrun was the place to see Steve Fryer running strongly after last weekend’s half marathon to finish in 21:15. Kev Pearson was also running well. Next home was Alistair Evans on his 116th parkrun and then Jenny Oliver finishing her 41st PR.

Bognor parkrun saw Mark Flinders in action and it was a great debut on this twisting course completing the laps in just 20:00. Nathan Bilham was also in action for his 97th parkrun.

Chichester parkrun saw Kate Evans notch up her 40th parkrun as she completed the Oaklands Park course.

Some more parkrun tourism this week at Mole Valley parkrun. An interesting run up the side of the North Downs from Denbie’s at Dorking, very undulating but a change from many coastal parkruns. Tiff Orton was first Tuff home followed by Glenn Parisi, Trevor Harvey, Clive Harvey & Jon Roper

Colin & Sue Simpson continue their quest in collecting parkrun venues with another new one. This week the reach extended to Romsey in Hampshire at Ganger Farm parkrun – 2.5 loops anticlockwise around two areas of sportsfield.

Well done to all 19.
