Weekend Round Up 2nd 3rd November

After so many weeks of Tuffs out racing, the past weekend saw a paucity of events, so for a change this week’s Round Up is light on content. The coming weekend starts on Friday with our Social and Awards evening, and then Saturday, provided there are not too many heavy heads from the night before, the race action picks up again. The banner photo is from the Gunpowder Trot

After a packed schedule for the West Sussex Fun Run League, Sunday 3rd November was the final fixture of the year, The Gunpowder Trot was situated close to Horsham Town Centre with runners covering an undulating course, mainly offroad on bridleways and footpaths. The finish line saw the conclusion of a 4.5 mile run with four club members running for their respective running clubs. First Tuff was Steve Fryer doing well in 33:18. Steve Feest was next, then Kate Cooper & Debbie Birch, all earning league points for their club’s.

We start at Littlehampton parkrun where Steve Fryer was home in a swift 20:41. Colin Simpson was next finishing first in his age group by almost 2.5 minutes. Paul Fielder was present on his first Littlehampton run. Next home we have a fantastic result from Alistair Evans. Not only was this Al’s 200th parkrun he marked the occasion in style by claiming a new PB. Al smashed 32 seconds off his previous PB – huge congratulations. Susan Douglas was our next runner followed by Sue Simpson. VIcky Cooper took part closing in on her 50th parkrun. Chris Evans completed the Tuff runners. Added to this, thanks go to the Tuffs on the volunteer team, Debbie Birch, Chris Evans & Hope Newcomer, Well done to all ten.

Across at Worthing parkrun Simon Grundy was in good form crossing the line in just 19:09. Also posting a swift time was Dave March in 20:27. Worthing regular Edward Lay was our next runner on his 188th run. Glenn Parisi was next on pacing duty for one of his daughters. Les Pearce was our fifth Tuff running on the Prom.

Clair parkrun is 4.5 laps around the undulating Clair Park in the middle of Haywards Heath which was the choice of Clive Harvey

The furthest tourism this week was at Stockley Country parkrun. Trevor Harvey took on this course situated north of Heathrow Airport. The laps around the country park coincided with someone’s birthday who treated all 83 runners and marshals to a bumper feast of coffee, cake and cookies.

Well done to all seventeen.

With so many newer members this year, it would be appreciated if runners would be willing to flag their parkrun account as Tuff Fitty. Not only does this make it easier to find and acknowledge our Tuff runners, especially when out doing parkrun tourism, it also helps to raise the profile of our club.

To link you parkrun account, hopefully you receive an email after you have completed a run. On the email the last ‘action bar at the bottom is flagged “Manage my Profile”. Click on this and there are further boxes to click on. Select the seventh box down marked “Groups”. From here you can select Tuff Fitty.

At this point some will point out that they are also a member of a running club. Of course as run related it is not unreasonable for you to have your running club as primary club. However did you know you can add Tuff Fitty as a secondary club. Your committee are looking at how to take the Round Up forward into 2025, but adding Tuff Fitty as either a primary or secondary club would mean your run can be identified and acknowledged as we move into 2025.

The committee often get asked whether they can bring a friend along to track. This is permissible as we do not have the capacity constraints that we have to apply at our swim sessions. If you would like to bring someone along with you for a taster session, please do, (checking that they do not have any fitness impediments). If such runners wish to continue then the price levied is £3 per person as a non member. If they subsequently join as a Tuff, the price will reduce to the standard members charge.

This week’s picture of the week is from our Saturday morning trail run. Starting from Arundel, by the lower Castle gates, this off road, undulating route is the club’s longer training run of the week. Interested? Meet ready to canter off at 7:30am
